The Canadian International Automotive Show introduces a new emphasis on learning for 2002 and, combined with 1,000 booths of new products and services, the event promises to satisfy all aspects of a jobber’s and service provider’s business.

Three days of business and technical seminars highlight the “Accelerate Your Knowledge” theme of the event, plus there are numerous show-floor learning opportunities. These include an engine-building demonstration and numerous other product demos. Pick up the pocket show guide and CIAS Daily Gazette at the show for more information and updates.

You must pre-register to attend the business and technical seminars. You cannot register for them at the show. The price to attend each event is included. If you complete the advance registration form online, you will also be able to register and pay for these events online. Space is limited and registrations will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis.  Event registrations must be received by no later than April 19, 2002.

AIA Annual General Meeting

In addition to regular AGM business, the AGM will also feature a number of activities to celebrate our 60th Anniversary. Retiring Director and Ambassador Awards will be presented, as will the Division of the Year and Most Improved Division Awards. A new CAP recipient will receive his certificate. Jobber News will present its Jobber of the Year Award and Aftermarket Canada will unveil its Counterperson of the Year. Milestone AIA members will be celebrated in our 60th year. The meetings will conclude with a special 60th anniversary multi-media AIA retrospective.

TDG—Clear Language Amendments

We all know the challenges of inventory management in the automotive aftermarket industry. Paul Farah will call on his extensive knowledge and experience at General Motors to talk about effective inventory management. Paul’s presentation will include a look at changes in inventory management, specifically the impact of eBusiness in the aftermarket and major OEM Initiatives.

Profitability for Wholesalers

OBD II

Maximizing the economic benefits of emissions inspection to the aftermarket mandates that both the inspection and repair side of the equation work effectively. While the advent of sophisticated on-board diagnostic OBD II systems has the potential to dramatically improve both in-use testing programs and vehicle maintenance; technological, infrastructure, consumer and competitive concerns must first be addressed or public confidence will be lost along with the opportunity to improve vehicle in-use emissions performance. This session will outline the problems currently facing both industry and government entities in their attempts to ensure car owners have access to an affordable and effective emissions-related inspection and repair program.

GPS Technical Clinic

The presentation will detail a new model in diagnosing vehicles known as Driver Seat Diagnostics. Russ Bailey of Delphi’s Integrated Service Solutions will demonstrate the functionality of a web-enabled Hand Held Delivery Device that delivers the Driver Seat Diagnostic Process plus provides support tools and functions.

Aftermarket Canada is transforming a 2002 Mazda Protegé into a performance machine. Drawing from the huge and rapidly expanding performance aftermarket for import and compact cars the Protégé is modified with Eibach lowering springs, ADR alloy wheels, BFGoodrich performance tires, B&M shifter, custom exhaust and intake with K&N high-flow filter. This is only the first stage however. Future mods will include performance pulleys, cams, differential, brakes and ultimately a supercharger or turbocharger. Check out the Protegé at booth #1950 in the performance and accessory section.
